
In Nepali, seasons are called Reetu (ऋतु). Most countries around the world divides the year into 4
seasons with 3 months in each season. Whereas in Nepal, a year is divided into
6 seasons with 2 months in each. The six seasons are
1.
Basanta Ritu बसन्त ऋतु,
2.
Grishma Ritu ग्रिष्म ऋतु,
3.
Barsha Ritu वर्षा ऋतु,
4.
Sharad Ritu शरद ऋतु,
5.
Hemanta Ritu हेमन्त ऋतु,
6.
Shishir Ritu शिशिर ऋतु.
Nepalese seasons has its own distinct character, so it is not
similar to western seasons and Gregorian Calendar. It follows the Vaidic Tithi from Hindu calendar for seasons. The seasons are classified by not the calendar date but by the
tithis.
